NOT a 5k runner...

20 days to go!

I ran my first 5k this morning.
Yes, I bypassed the 5k and 10k
and went straight for the half marathon as my first race.
I've done 2 10k's since then.
But never a 5k- until today.

Now I know that I don't like them too much.
It was fine- my approximate time was 22:40.
(It was a free, non-chip timed fun run- awesome shirt, though!)

I don't like feeling like I need to run fast!
Too much pressure.
I'm definitely a longer distance sort of girl.
I'm not sad that I did it.
Now I know that the 5k distance isn't my thing.

It made the rest of my 16 feel harder than it should have, too.
I made it to the trail to finish up my miles (3.1 mile race + 13 miles).
I almost just went home.
My right knee has been giving me troubles
and the last thing I want is for it to get bad before the marathon.
I went and did it anyway- the knee felt pretty good...
until I was done :).
Now it thinks me walking around is a bad idea.
I am agreeing.
I see lots of icing in my future.

Snow can go to... well, you know...

I made up a song while I ran 7.35 miles on the treadmill.

"Snow I hate you.
Snow should die.
Snow I hate you.
It's no liiiiiiiiiie!"

Ok, I made that up right now.
Doesn't make it any less true.

Dumb snow better be gone tomorrow.
I'm doing that 16 miles!
First I will run the 5k (3.1 miles)
Then I will go finish up the rest at the Jordan Parkway Trail.

If I see you there, snow- you're finished!
It's almost May, for goodness sakes.
Get a calendar.

The day where I prove my lameness...

22 days to go!

Big Fat Zero

yeah, I was supposed to do 7.
I have now switched that to Saturday :).
So I only missed a 5 miler instead of a 7 miler.
Today got away from me.
It kinda sucked, actually.
I got a lot done- but not the running.

Dominic's Cub Scout Space Derby went WAY long.
We didn't get home until close to 9pm.
I was just done- couldn't get myself to do it.
That and the wind was crazy.

Even more awesome- the forecast tomorrow calls for
rain/snow ALL DAY.
Looks like a wet 16 miler for me.
I have that 5k on Saturday or I would just do it then.

I am ready for today to be over.
Tomorrow is not gonna be much better, though.

At least I WON!
Ok, Dominic won- 
No, he didn't win any races.
He did win the "Cub's Choice" award.
All of the Cub Scouts voted for the design they
liked the best and we won THAT award :).
I'm totally taking credit for it
because- well... take a guess ;).

Even my elbows feel tired...

I set my alarm for 4:15 am.
I woke up at 3:50.
In my early morning sleepiness I decided I may as well stay awake.
Wasn't that a great idea.
So tired.
I had all these plans for today.
Let's just see how much of it I actually get done now!
Most of it involved leaving my house.
I don't even want to get dressed.

I'm not a big fan of those super energy drinks
and I'm not going to start that now-
but I'm not sure Diet Pepsi is gonna do the trick.
I vote for a 'lay in bed all day' day!
Who's with me??

On a blurry-eyed happy note- over 500 miles ran this year!!
Go me.

Remember when...

I reserved the right to change my running schedule this week.
I am doing just that.
It snowed all morning.
Then it stopped.
I was all set to go out and run my 10 miles.
Then I heard the wind outside.
19+ mph.
Gusts up to 30mph.
So said the weather app on my phone.

Just say no
to running in giant wind.
Also just say no to running 10 miles
on a treadmill.

So today is my rest day.
I have big plans to get up at 4:30 am and do the 10 miles.
It will be great.

Rain is mean and tricksy...

I went to the gym to run after Mark got home...
because it was rainy and windy.
I did the run on the treadmill.
It wasn't so bad- but it was still a treadmill.

I left the gym and it was all blue skies and sunshine.
Whatever, Spring.
You win.
I'm finished with you!

6 miles out of the way, though.
You can't take that away from me, crazy Spring weather!!! 

Side note: my legs felt pretty good, considering I ran 22 miles 2 days ago- yay!

I reserve the right to switch around this schedule as needed.
I signed up for the Salt Lake Running Co.'s free 5k Fun Run on Saturday.
So I'll just have to add 2 more miles.
Hopefully I can do 16 on Friday afternoon.
It's really hard to even think about it after yesterday's 22 miles.
My left ankle and ONE toe on my right foot hurt.
Other than that I just feel tired.

I am the most amazing woman alive!!

Okay, maybe not.
But I feel like it!
Is it wrong to be this proud of myself??
I don't care!
I ran 22.2 miles today and I could have done more!
I could have done 4 more miles...
equaling 26.2.
I didn't- but I could have.

that was my last really long run until the marathon!
So happy about THAT.
I didn't know if I would do the full 22 today.
I did have to walk about 2/3 of a mile at the beginning.
I thought I could make it the 2.5 miles before I would
need to use the restroom.
I was wrong.
Apparently driving 20-25 minutes to the Jordan Parkway Trail
was just enough time for me to have to pee again :).
So I had to walk back to the bathroom.
I could not run- it was that bad.

After that, everything was so good.
I took my gels every 5 miles.
Drank water.
I'm so glad that's done.
Now I won't have to do it Monday or Tuesday.
Thank you, Mark for letting me take off for many hours
on a Saturday afternoon to get this done.
You're nice :).

Sad at myself...

yeah, I didn't run.
Very bad, me.
My under the weather feelings never quite went away.
I could have still run, though.
After all the wandering around we did all day
I just didn't feel like it, alright!?!
I am convincing myself that pushing the long run back
to either Monday or Tuesday will still count.
Since it will only be a few days late.
Also, it's my last REALLY long run...
so doing it a later just means it will be a little closer to
the actual day of the marathon.
Not TOO close to the marathon, but closer.
That's good, right?
I think so!

Still, I should have at least ran SOME miles today.
Too late now.
Not really.
I could still go to the gym and run.

I don't wanna.

I will run some tomorrow.
That's a promise.

Fridays really ARE for lying!

I am NOT running 22 miles today.
I am not running 20 miles today.

I might run 10-12 miles.
We'll see.

I woke up feeling a little under the weather.
Then I felt guilty leaving for 3+ hours on Hali's birthday.
I would have to be done by 10:30 because Mark has a dentist appt.
That would result in none of my kids being adequately dressed
and groomed for the lunch and trip to the aquarium we have
planned with Grandma Judy...
because Mark would be in charge of getting them ready :).

Also, every time I do a long run and then go out to public places
I end up getting really sick.

This was fun.
A long post of silly excuses why I didn't do my long run.
I am so proud of myself ;).

It WILL be done, though.
Oh yes, it will be done.
Tomorrow if I have time, but I don't think I will.
For sure Monday or Tuesday.

I AM going to run today-
after all the festivities.

Running outside makes me happy- and tired...

First off- only 29 days until the Ogden Marathon!?!?
My goodness.

Ok, moving on...
I got at 4:15 this morning.
I ran 3 miles before meeting up with
a couple ladies in the neighborhood to do the final 6.
I tried to get to bed early, but I just couldn't sleep.
Still, I felt good, mostly awake and ready.

After running on a treadmill all week-
I can safely say that running outside is WAY better.

Now I feel tired.
I want to go back to bed.
Luckily it's Spring Break for us now.
(Spring Break is weird here- Thurs, Fri and Mon off)

I have nothing that NEEDS to be done today.
So a morning nap may be on the schedule ;).

22 miles tomorrow!
I really may just do 20.
I don't think I need to do 22 to be ready for the marathon.
I say this because I have SO much experience with marathon running...

Boring run, boring post title...

I went to the gym after Mark got home.
I got halfway there and realized the weather had cleared up.
I should have just ran outside.
My watch was at home, though.
Yes, I am completely dependent.
I will be starting a support group...
in a few years when I'm ready to be apart from my Garmin.

It wasn't fun.
It felt way too hard considering it was just 5 miles.
I am realizing that running in the rain
would be preferable to running on a treadmill.

I reserve the right to change my mind/lie...

Starting NOW.
I am changing my training schedule for the week.
In fact, I may only run 4 times this week!
I had that great plan to run my long run tonight.
However, I forgot about Hali's science fair project.
I didn't actually forget, I just really thought it was due AFTER Spring Break.
I was not correct.
Dominic's is due then.
 Hali's is due tomorrow.
So we had to finish it up after school today and this evening.
We also had to pick up Mark's car from getting checked out.

All of these things add up to me not running at ALL today.
I probably could have just do it after the kids get in bed
but I just feel worn out now.

I will push everything back a day
but if I don't get them all done, I'm okay with it.
I think.
I may be trying to convince myself ;).

Long run now scheduled for Friday morning!

Hmm, I don't remember moving back to Oregon...

Curse you, rain.
6.4 miles on a treadmill is no fun.
No fun at all.
I almost stopped and went home after 1.2 miles.
The treadmill messes us my stride.
Then my ankles started to hurt- of all things.
It was very strange.
I walked for a minute or 2 and it got better.
The gym is just too warm all the time.
The result being excessive sweat.

I'm thinking of doing my long run tomorrow night...
if everything works out.
If the stupid rain goes away.
I've turned into a rain wimp.
I guess I've been away from Oregon for too long.

Rain running...

Training Schedule
4/18 - 4/24

Mon - 6 miles
Tues - 5 miles
Wed - Rest
Thur - 9 miles
Fri - 7 miles
Sat - 22 miles
Sun - Rest

I get tired just looking at this running schedule.
I don't know how some runners do 50, 60, 70+ miles per week.
I just ain't that strong :).

Anyway- I will have to mix up this schedule.
Hali's birthday is Friday.
Saturday is soccer and her birthday "party".
ALSO, it's supposed to rain all week.
I'm just going to have to wait for the next clear evening
and take off for my last super long run then.
I may not actually do 22 miles.
That somehow seems excessive for a first time marathoner.

This rain may mean that I don't get all my miles done.
I'm not trying for that.
Only mildly hoping ;).
I can always go to the gym-
it's just not as easy when you only have a limited 
time frame to get a run in.

Here's to hoping that the weather report changes...

Garmin dependency and SuperLisa!

First off...
Big YAY YAY YAY! to my SIL Lisa for running 
her first half marathon today!
She even placed FIRST in her division!
She's pretty much the most awesome ever :). 

Now for my not as awesome run:
My watch died after half a mile.
I didn't plan out my route because I figured
that the Garmin would keep track of that for me.
I felt lost after it stopped working.
Only 2-3 weeks with this watch and I am GPS dependent!
I almost went back home.

I kept running, though.
I did the first loop and then came home
to check how far I had gone and how much I still needed to do
(and to use the bathroom).

Ah, so addicted to technology.
If the watch is plugged in to my computer
it will turn ON when I close the laptop.
I'm going to have to be sure to take it off the charger
when it is done charging.

I don't want to be left without my running friend again! 

Also, I stood at that darn expo- on a concrete floor-
for 6 hours last night.
My feet/legs hurt more after that than after a long run!
It was really fun, though.
Feeling all the race excitement and stuff :).

When will it just STOP being cold!
Luckily the wind had died down
so our run this morning wasn't so bad.
Just a little on the chilly side.
Of course, I didn't go to bed early enough
and I have a nice full day ahead of me.
I feel tired already and it's only 8:05 am.

We get to pick up the new to us car today.
Then I'm volunteering from 3-9 at the Salt Lake Marathon expo.
Mark's sister and her kids are coming to spend the night.

Before that there is running kids to preschool, etc.
Caffeine is my friend.
I am not ashamed.

Running with keys...

It was so, so very windy cold this morning.
So we called off our morning run in favor of bed.

I ran in the late afternoon
after we got back from buying a new (to us) car.
(Yes, we had to buy a new car because Mark's car has been diagnosed as a lost cause)

It was still windy and too sunny.
But I felt SO good!
I ran 6.5 miles- average pace of 7:50 per mile!
It was great and it made me happy.

I drove down to the high school to start my run.
I decided to wear my jacket... I shouldn't have.
I took my jacket off a little less than halfway through.
I left my car keys in my pocket.
About a quarter mile later, I felt in the pocket.
No keys.
I got to run back that quarter mile looking for them...
good times :).
Seriously so glad that I checked when I did.
It would have been not the best if I would have realized
they were gone 3.5 miles later...
at my car.

My Kanye hills...

I got up at the same time as yesterday (4:55am).
I did the exact same route (plus one more mile).
Strange that none of it felt the same.
The first half felt hard- so very hard.
It got better, but I was never having much fun (strange, I know).
Maybe I shouldn't do 2 hilly runs 2 days in a row.
Maybe I should just sleep until 7.

Ok, I am NOW glad that I did it.

I owe a big THANKS to Kanye...
(what, Kanye West isn't YOUR inspiration?)
I actually think Kanye is a weird, annoying human being.
he has provided me with my running mantra/song:

Running and speculating...

Early morning run with a girl/lady in the ward.
It was a nice (hilly) run
where we may or may not have speculated
about the changes that will be coming to our
ward in the next week.
We were cautioned against such speculation ;)...
but really, how are we not going to think/talk about it?
It's making me a little nervous.

ah, 11 mile long run- you make me smile.
This weeks schedule just makes me happy.
I'm volunteering this Friday at the packet pick-up/registration
for the Salt Lake City Marathon.
I decided I should help out at other races
since I am doing so many of them myself.
It takes so many volunteers to make a race great.
I couldn't help on race day, but it's something :). 

Can I just say- I'm not the biggest fan of hot, hot summers....
However, I am SO ready for the snow to STOP.
It's spring, dang it.

Snow in the face...

Yep, it's still snowing.
I wasn't even going to run at all.
The snow finally let up so I decided to head out
before we go to this family gathering thing.

I did 2.5 miles and then the snow started again.
Right in my face.
In my eyeballs- blurring my contacts.

I went home.
Did not get 6 miles done.
But 4.33 is good enough for me.
5 miles off for the goal for the week
but still over 40!

Friday - I am "Post Title" challenged...

I don't know why I started putting the day of the week and date as the post title.  The date shows up right on top of that on the blog.  I'm changing it as of NOW.

It's snowing here.
In April.
I am not a fan.

I didn't run yesterday.
I could have done it in the morning...
but I had just ran 21 miles the night before.
I wasn't feeling it.
Also, it was our 10th anniversary yesterday (go us!).
I thought it might me mean of me to head
out to the gym as soon as Mark got home from work ;).

I ran this morning, though!
6.3 miles on my nemesis, the treadmill.
I hate you, snow.
It really wasn't so bad.
I just get WAY sweatier at the gym.
It's pretty.

Now I can enjoy our anniversary celebration
that is happening for us this evening.
I plan on eating my weight in fondue 
and watching a dumb, funny, nonsensical movie alone w/ my husband.
(Don't judge) 

Luckily Mark's favorite place to go eat is so cheap.
Sarcasm is my life.

I am over 400 miles for the year!  Over there someplace --------->
You know there are people who run 100 mile ultramarathons?
I assume they are bussed in from the asylum to participate...

Wednesday - 4/6/11

44 days to go!

Miles Ran:

Yay!  I love the feeling after a long run is DONE!
I was trying to figure out how I was going to get
my 21 mile long run in this week.
I thought about Thursday night- but it's our 10th anniversary
AND a big storm thing is coming in w/ rain, thunder, etc.
Friday afternoon- Kindergarten orientation.
Friday night- going out for our anniversary.
Saturday morning- 3 soccer games.
Saturday afternoon/evening- Mark's family Easter gathering.

I finally determined it would either have to be tonight
or not at all.
Not at all sounded good- but not really an option.

Mark is awesome and took ALL the kids to swimming lessons-
even Brandon, who doesn't take swimming lessons
and would no doubt throw a fit when he couldn't get in the pool.
Then they waited around at the soccer fields until I got there.
He's a good guy, that husband.

I felt GREAT...
considering I was running 21 miles.
SO much better than last Saturday's 16 miler.
The wind was blowing like crazy, but otherwise good weather.
I made sure to drink water and eat my gels in a timely manner.
I actually felt like I could have done a full marathon.

Average Pace- 8:34 (yes, that surprised me)

It's a nice feeling.
Like I will probably actually be able to do this!

I think I will sleep pretty good tonight :).

Tuesday - 4/5/11

So I didn't run yesterday.
I got up at 5:45am to run- but then I checked the weather on my phone.
25 degrees but feels like 15 with 12 mph wind.
No thanks.
I later wished I would have just done it.
It's clear by now that my judgment/decision making skills
should not be trusted when very sleepy.

Now I have to alter my whole week.

Today felt really good, though.
I ran 4 miles on my own and then 6.2 with the neighborhood ladies.
I did take a 10 minute break between the two runs
because I finished up the 4 a little earlier than planned.
Went to the bathroom and got a drink.
Still counts.

If I run 6 miles tonight, will that make up for not running on Monday?
I'm thinking it's not the same thing.

I'm not really sure how that 21 miles is going to go.
We are going out the night before for our 10th anniversary.
I then have to get up early and run 21 miles...
before we go to a gathering with Mark's family/extended family.
I would try to do it Friday
but I don't want to feel all crappy before going out ;).
Maybe I will do it Friday.
I just don't know.
Today my legs feel so sore- it's hard to think about running at all.

Saturday - 4/2/11

Today was one of those runs
where I question what the H 
I was thinking signing up for this marathon.
More than one marathon, even.

It sucked.
It sucked so very bad.
My legs feel so much worse than after the 20 miler last week.

Here's the deal:
Some part of my brain thought it would be a great idea to go
do an hour of Zumba this morning...
then run 16 miles this afternoon.
I is smart.
I'm also close to every girls favorite time of the month.
Like, hours away... any minute even.

I hate crappy runs.
I hate questioning what I've gotten myself into.

I did it, though.
I almost stopped after the first lap...
8 miles is enough, right?
 I did it and now my body feels sad.
Part of me is proud of myself for getting it done.

Most of me wants to fall into a small coma...

On a more positive note...
Total miles this week:
The most I've ever done, I believe.
